“Hey, I’m already home…”

My Associations are posts about songs that make me think of someone or something. This one is about “Already Home” and the Balloon Boy incident. Enjoy and hit up the comments…

“Don’t they know that I’m gone?
They know I’m space shuttle level.
They need oxyg-g-g-gen.”

On October 15, 2009, the world watched their TVs and tweeted in shock, as six-year-old Falcon Heene allegedly floated across Fort Collins, Colorado in a home-made balloon.

Falcon himself wasn’t visible, but his family said that they became aware he was missing when his brother said that he saw Falcon climb into the balloon’s basket. As soon the family notified authorities, the balloon was tracked by helicopters on national television, and the world prayed that the balloon would land with the boy safely inside.

“Oh, they want me to fall,
Fall from the top.
They want me to drop.
They want me to stop.”

After floating for two hours the balloon finally landed near Keenesburg, Colorada. I witnessed and laughed at many jokes on twitter as the balloon floated. But it was during the landing that I felt my heart and the hearts of everyone else across the world beat intensely, as we watched people rush towards the balloon to get Falcon out. I admit, I held back tears forming in my eyes, as I prepared myself to hear horrible news….

“They want me to go.
I’m already gone…”

When Falcon wasn’t found inside the balloon, officials expressed concerns that he might have already fallen out during flight. There were even unconfirmed reports that someone saw something fall from the balloon near Platteville, Colorado. My heart dropped; and search and rescue crews across Colorado were immediately sent out to search for the boy.

“The shit that I’m on,
I’m already home…”

Boy, oh boy, oh boy…it was perhaps maybe two hours later that CNN and other news reported that Falcon was found hiding in a cardboard box in rafters above his family’s garage. More, and more, and more jokes started pouring in…especially when it became apparent that the whole thing was hoax, as Falcon answered his parents, “You guys said that, um, we did this for the show.” on CNN’s Larry King Live when he was asked why he didn’t come out of the garage.

But I requested that all jokes end immediately and for everyone to give up, after my boy A.G. Detweiler retweeted someone saying something along the lines of “Balloon boy: ‘Oh, they want me to fall…fall from the top…” Once again, I found myself trying to hold back tears, because it was one of the funniest things I have ever read.

Falcon Heene, I have no words for you little man. No words except “Thank You”. Thank you for one of the funniest moments in my life. I think at the time I was still depressed that I couldn’t find a job or something. But your whole adventure added a lot of laughter and value to my life. As did the invaluable tweet from mystery dude. To this day, every time I hear the words from “Already Home”, I start chuckling. I start chuckling as I see that silver balloon float throughout my mind…

I tried to find that original tweet and it’s author, but to no dice. So homie, if you find this blog post, holla @ me!
