There’s just one major thing that I don’t like about Thank Me Later – its Track List order. But that’s ok, because I fixed it. See my words below to Aubrey.

Dear Mr. Graham,

Being the designated biggest Drake fan amongst my friends, I definitely had to have a couple a listens to your debut album, before its June 15th release date. And while everyone says it sucks and complains about you singing too much and yadayadayada, I realized the true problem:

Your track list is horrible -

You have songs that you’re singing, songs that you’re rapping, songs that are a combination of you singing and rapping, songs that are really for women, songs that are really for doods (e.g. blasting in cars), and songs that are oddly in a way, very suitable for both.

Now that’s all great and all. But the problem is, it didn’t flow right. Everything was all over the place; and the vibe would switch up and then down, and then out of nowhere, back up, but then right back down! So it was hard to get in the right mood. I mean, the doods can’t figure out if they’re supposed to be screw faced, and the girls can’t figure out if they want to be screwed, nah mean? And what’s worse is, the beginning took too long to get up in the first place. You started with “Fireworks”, went into some emo little “Karoake”, and then went into your introspective quasi-emo “Resistance” before it was all “Over”, and we were finally allowed to party. I wasn’t the only one to feel that way.

So here’s the solution:

  1. Fireworks Feat Alicia Keys
  2. The Resistance
  3. Over
  4. Up All Night Feat Nicki Minaj
  5. Miss Me Feat Lil Wayne
  6. Light Up Feat Jay-Z
  7. Unforgettable feat Young Jeezy
  8. Ceces Interlude
  9. Find Your Love
  10. Show Me A Good Time
  11. Fancy feat Swizz and T.I.
  12. Shut It Down Feat The-Dream
  13. Karaoke
  14. Thank Me Now

To me every song on Thank Me Later is dope. But no matter how good the songs are on an album, they have to flow right. With this track list, I’m sure the Thank Me Later experience, will be a lot better.

Here’s a rundown:

We start with “Fireworks”, which I know had to start the album because it has an intro feel, and you wanted the first line of the album to start with the last line of “Fear”, the last song on the So Far Gone ep. We then go into “The Resistance” because it also has an intro feel to it, and despite its mellow beat, you go in lyrically, and everyone loves it.

After those first two tracks, we have to go into “Over” for two reasons: 1) Things have been mellow for two songs now, we need to pick it up; and 2) You ended “The Resistance” with the words over. It makes sense to follow up with “Over”, as you did on the original list anyway.

So, now that we picked it up with “Over”, we got it keep it that way for a while – not too much singing and just straight rapping. So we keep it Young Money by going into “Up All Night”, a screw face record that has Nicki Minaj doing some lyrical work, and then “Miss Me”, with Lil Wayne.

Now Because “Miss Me” is knocktastic song, that then mellows out at the end, it’s the perfect set-up to go into “Light Up”, your dark and lyrically aggressive collaboration with Jay-Z. At this point, the speakers in my car are probably asking for a break. But that’s too bad, because after “Light Up”, we’re going into “Unforgettable”.

We go into “Unforgettable”, because things got really dark with Hova, I need a little up lifting, but I’m not quite ready to hear you start singing your heart out to girls either. But hearing Aaliyah’s “let me knows”, put a smile on my face as you start rapping your ass off, followed by Young Jeezy doing his thing as well.

After “Unforgettable”, I’m softened up a bit – I’ve been hearing Aaliyah’s voice, so maybe I’m ready for some of your singing, as is the ladies. So Boom, “Ceces Interlude”. And after “Cece’s Interlude”, “Find Your Love”. But after “Find Your Love”, it’s already too much Drake singing for some dudes.

So now we gotta bring it back up, while still maintaining the vibe for the women. We follow-up with “Show Me A Good Time”; and after that, we go into “Fancy”, which is still for the ladies, but knocks almost as equally hard as “Over”, “Up All Night”, and “Miss Me”. This way, the average dood is being kept entertained, while the women are still feeling right and taken care of.

So after that segment we’re going to start mellowing things out again and get sexy with “Shut It Down”, which is a good song at this time, because although you sing your ass off with The-Dream in the beginning, towards the end, you start rapping your ass of, as the beat also builds up all the way up. So BOOM….

Now you can go into your emo ass “Karaoke”, which also has a dope rap towards its end; and then finish the album with “Thank Me Now”.

You’re welcome.
