My friend Jared shared this quote on Twitter; and I had to share with my readers.

Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic. Authenticity is invaluable; originality is non-existent. And don’t bother concealing your thievery - celebrate it if you feel like it. In any case, always remember what Jean-Luc Godard said: “It’s not where you take things from - it’s where you take them to.

I love the entire idea of this. In fact, before I even knew about this quote, the concept of it is something that my boy and fellow collaborator, Ibe, have been going back on forth on for a while now. Ib jokes on my method of writing poems from pictures and videos, etc. He thinks it makes my writing lazy; and (i believe) he believes that writing should just come from within. But I disagree, and think that both methods should be embraced.

How do you feel about it?

On a related sidenote: I love that Drake recently admitted to AllHipHop that Big Sean was the inspiration for a now infamous (and annoying to few) rap pattern.
