cool project, touchy subject.

i think sampling is all relative, cause sometimes people are paying tribute and get called out for “ripping off” and other times people are ripping off and get all the credit for the work. But overall people get WAY to hung up over it, cause in the end of the day people just want to be entertained.

Theophilus is my favorite example cause a huge chunk of his work is really 80% someone else’s old work, but he makes it funky with that little 20% tweak! I feel like some artists are really just translating music from prior generations into a musical language that current generations can better appreciate and access.

But yeah crazy how much Led Zeppelin ripped people n gave no credit, that’s grimey. And they even had the nerve to sue people for doing the same to their music!! fuckries

I see what you’re saying. But as an artist, hearing someone else get praised for most or all of the credit for work you’ve done, can’t be a good feeling. So it’s not just about the audience that wants to be entertained.

And I agree about Theo and the translating argument. But at the end of the day, I think it’s all about just giving props and credit to what you jacked or inspired you.

Case in point: Led Zeppelin were dicks.

oh i totally agree… with all my points i guess i should have included that credit to the original is always necessary, whether it’s a bassline or an entire damn song
