I’ve respected Pac Div as a solid “hip-hop” act after hearing one of their songs a while back when I was still schoolin’ at Syracuse. I quote hip-hop because they had that traditional rap sound that I believe both OG rap heads from the East and West Coasts would dig. But I wasn’t a big fan of whatever project it was from the group that I had listened to in an effort to get more familiar with them. It just didn’t resonate with me, or maybe it was too mellow; I don’t remember. But Mania! definitely hit the spot for me.
At first, I was surprised at the artwork, and must admit that it was probably a good 40 to 60% of the reasons I downloaded the mixtape. But after the first 30 or so seconds of starting Mania!, I knew I was most likely about to be blessed with some soul pleasing music. And I was right.
Mania! has two point five distinct vibes: that semi-conscious introspective aspirational soul feeding realness (that you usually get from good talent during it’s struggle to the top); and that party and bullshuttin’ knuckle head but still quality stuff that you’d probably get from a Young Jeezy or A Tribe Called Quest (if they came out around now). Word, bruh.
It was hard as hell for me to pick only three tough tracks; so dabble your ears into the four below and get to downloading, yo.
