This poem was inspired by a tweet from Jean Grae. Pardon the perspective, “him” rhymes better than “her” with “squint”. Thanks.

Squint by Jemar Souza

Clearly,
In hindsight,
You were the one meant for me,

As my heart is feeling empty
And I wonder why he left me.

But my vision’s twenty twenty;
And when I close my eyes I see

Him.

And it’s him
That still haunts me in my dreams.

But maybe if I squint,
Just squint a little bit…

Yeah,

Maybe if I squint..
You’ll look a little bit..

Just a little bit…

A little bit like him.
