This poem and its title were inspired by: a tweet from Brook Lynne Carter, a “relationship” I went through, lyrics from The-Dream’s “Make Up Bag”:
“Drop 5 Stacks on a Make Up Bag”,
and lyrics from U.G.K’s “International Player’s Anthem.”:
“Keep your heart 3 stacks. Keep your heart.”

Weigh Her Heart, 5 Stacks. Weigh Her Heart
by Jemar Souza
Her handbag was full,
But her heart
Was empty.
Lipstick, make-up -
Sex,
Mind still
Stuck on
Ex.
She was,
She said,
Looking for love;
And I promised her plenty,
‘Cause when there’s love…
It’s never clear
I should fear
That we would be only be friend-ly.
And as I
Patiently waited,
Her heart
Was never weighted.
But when a libra
Met with Cupid,
I knew it -
There’s no way
That I could save it.
