Wise Words are knowledge and tips from people working in the arts and entertainment industry. But they won’t just give me advice, they’ll also provide some to themselves. These words are from the dood, Erick Arc Elliott. Enjoy and learn something.

Once you find your medium, go for it.

It’s impossible to conduct a career in fear that people won’t like you. It’s either you’re good, or you aren’t. People spend too much time trying to define what art is. When it comes to Hip-Hop music, it’s transgressed much from the way things ‘used-to-be’, and people should accept that things have officially changed and stop whining.

In the same respect, that doesn’t make everything that is deemed as ‘different’ as ‘good music’. It troubles me to know that certain artists who speak about their issues – however vulgar – are defined as a lesser because they aren’t ‘pop’, just as much as it bothers me to know there are artists who are so anti-establishment they can’t ever have a ‘mainstream’ sound.

I believe I need to become more familiar with leveling. I would love to be able to do a lot more of my mixing myself, but I often get frustrated and push all the levels really high so I can hear, hahahaha. I also need to do more collaborative records.

Erick is an MC, beat maker, and designer from Brooklyn, New York. His “noir” mixtape has only been out for four months and is counting over 4000 downloads to date, while his newly released video entitled, “Plane” is receiving a lot of Internet attention as well. Currently, Erick is working on his next release entitled, “Food for Thought”- an official CD release and will more than likely be packaged along with a form of limited book or collectible trinket.

By the way, Erick doesn’t smoke cigarettes – that one was for the “Plane” video; and apparently, he’s obsessed with zombies. Which means he’d fit right in with my friend – John -and me, enjoy this Rifoki video, and be prepared for when those mofos attack!

Follow Erick on Twitter, check out his website and peep “The Plane” video, if you’ve been slacking this whole time.
